Hakeem Lapointe thumbnail
Hakeem Lapointe Inhuman Spaces blankets its listener in classical orchestrations elevating them into lofty comfort before undercutting that very comfort with sharp interventions of flawless precision. The sense of protection offered by the classical elements mutates over the album and is stripped away to give way for riskier mind-spaces, such as in Abstract Machine, to then end on a note of delectable disquiet. Favorite track: Pulses.

On Inhuman Spaces, Sour Gout creates collages of organic and virtual intensities, sculpting them into a series of immersive soundscapes. The album combines digital, instrumental, and organic sounds into a wide array of abstract forms. Sour Gout seeks to create a sense of the inhuman through the blends of these sonic sources. Inhuman Spaces takes influence from the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Frank Zappa's late synclavier compositions, and the apocalyptic healing manga Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō. The album represents a sonic shift for Sour Gout toward a more personal and abstract space, which represents a move forward to new frontiers of musical exploration for the artist moving into the new decade.
